What are the issues I should consider for migrating our version 4.2 database to version 5?

I have just installed Q-Pulse 5 server and client and I cannot login.

Some installations will require that you turn off (and restart) all Q-pulse services which include the following: MS$QPULSE(MSDE ONLY),Q-Pulse5Dispatch Server,Q-Pulse5 Server, and SQLAgent$QPulse(MSDE ONLY) A reboot of the server may also resolve the issue. This is caused by the services not syncing up.

Some custom fields I have applied to Q-Pulse aren't showing up when I exit the administrator module.

A patch for version 5.00.21 corrected this problem. See above link for patches.

E-mail notifications are not being sent out when I create a new document or Non-Conformance.

You can access the email settings for Q-pulse5 in the QPulse5 Server directory using the QPulseMessageDispatchControlPanel.exe file. This will allow you to manage the SMTP settings for the software, and also allows your IT management to log email activity from the software.

Select the user you wish to add a deputy to from the People list within the Administration module then 'View/Edit'. You can now select the Deputy Tab and New. From here you can select the Deputy name and put details against the record.

How do I create a draft document from a currently active record?

To raise a draft document based on an existing document you can either from the list view right click on the record and select "Revise Document" or select the same option from the Toolbar under "Documents". Through the Document details screen on the Toolbar select "Actions" then "Revise Document", this will take you through a Draft Process wizard.

How do I set up related documents?

On the document list right click on your document to select 'View/Edit Properties...' and choose 'Related Documents'. You can also edit the Properties from within the Document details page.

Can I reorder document stages?

Unfortunately you are unable to reorder stages within the document control module.

When I complete a stage it automatically enters my name to the closed by field. How do I prevent this?

Enter a name to the 'Closed by' field before completing the stage.

The incident target is automatically set, how do I change this?

Through Incident Templates you can customize the default values including setting the Target date 'X' number of days after the Raised date. Please ensure that the stage target dates fall before the overall target date.

When I re-open a closed incident I am being prompted with a dialog box, why?

This is to record why the incident is being re-opened for traceability

I am unable to close a stage.

You will be unable to close a stage if there are outstanding actions or your permission rights do not allow you to do this.

How do I search on overdue incidents?

Through Advanced on 'Search' select status not equal to closed. Now select 'And'. On the next line you can select Target less than today's date.

How do I search on an incident prefix?

Using the Keyword field on 'Search' allows you to search on number field, keywords and details.

When I re-open an incident why doesn't it re-open the stages as well?

The stage has been closed and is separate to the overall closer. Discussion with stage owner may be required before reopening a stage or actions!

Accessing Q-Pulse Login: Cannot initialize Q-Pulse, .LCK errors on private directory.

When Q-Pulse is installed on a Windows 2000 or XP its uses the "Temp" folder of the user who is logged on to the system (by default, C:\Documents and Settings\\Temp\Private). This path is written to the file "QPrivate.INI" which is installed on the C:\WinNT or C:\Windows folder. The path can be edited to match the following which will be generic for all users.

WORKING=c:\TEMP

Please ensure that the path entered is a valid path and that the users have full creation/deletion rights to these folders. Users of Q-Pulse also require full creation/deletion rights to the Q-Pulse directory and its sub directories. You can if desired remove deletion rights to the Q-Pulse directory except for files with the extensions *.LCK and *.NET for all users with the exception of the Q-Pulse Administrator.

Next, access the Q-Support Utility to clear the .lck and .net files from the server:

  1. Click on Start, navigate to the Q-Pulse menu, then Utilities, then click on the Q-Support option. (Note: If you do not have the Utilities Menu in your Start Menu, use MS Explorer to access the Q-Pulse4 directory on the server. In the root of the Q-Pulse4 directory, make a shortcut to the Q-Support32.exe file).
  2. Once in Q-Support, access the "Utilities" option in the toolbar on top.
  3. Click on "Clear .LCK and .NET Files."

This should clear out any temporary files on the Server only. In addition, you can search the users local hard drive for any existing PDOXUSRS.LCK, and .NET files, which may not be clearing when the user logs out of Q-Pulse. Once they are deleted all Q-Pulse users should be able to login.

Printing Issue: An error occurred while trying to setup the selected report. Error 533 Unable to open database Execute

This issue is usually caused by the Crystal 8.5 P2BBDE.DLL file reading the DLLPATH registry setting for Borland when multiple paths are specified. This error can be resolved by editing the Borland registry key:

  1. Run Regedit.
  2. Select the Path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Borland/Database Engine.
  3. Check the DLLPATH. If this path has an additional entry separated by a semi colon you can edit the entry to remove this path, e.g. "Q:\QPulse4\BDE;C:\ProgramFiles\Borland" should be edited to read "Q:\QPulse4\BDE". Ensure that the DLLPATH is a valid path.

Tables with underscores at the end of the filename, e.g. ACCESS_.DB are not repairing through the Q-Support utility.

These are backup tables of corrupt databases created by repair and can be ignored. You can remove these files from their respected directories. You can also remove files that have a tilde in front of the file extension as these are temporary database files not being used. i.e. ACCESS~1.DB.

How are network license counts determined?

Network licenses are for concurrent use. However, Q-Pulse allows users to view documents without using a license seat. A license is not used until the user progresses beyond the Main dialog into any module except:

  1. the Document & Data Control: Document Register tab only
  2. View Messages
  3. Administration
