Six Sigma Champion Training
Champions are mid to upper-level management responsible for supporting the Six Sigma program while
ensuring it is aligned with the overall business strategy. They serve as advocates of the Six Sigma deployment
program. Because of their standing in the organization at managerial levels, they provide critical exposure of
the program to their functional reports and endorsement of the program as a management initiative. The primary
role of a Champion is to ensure the organizational systems are in place to support the Six Sigma deployment.
As members of management, Champions bestow authority on the Six Sigma project teams. Through program development,
project selection, and resource allocation, Champions ensure that the organizational ground is fertile for
project growth and success. Through continuous involvement in the Six Sigma initiative, Champions send a clear
signal to the organizational masses that management’s commitment is continuous. Dispelling the notion that the
program is a flavor of the month is an ongoing but necessary challenge to overcome unproductive sub-cultures that
may exist. Champion training provides an awareness of these roles, responsibilities and challenges. Champions must have a conceptual understanding of the
principles, tools, and techniques required to lead the Six Sigma transformation.
Quality America offers an Executive Leadership / Six Sigma Champion course targeted to Senior Management, as
well as a Six Sigma Champion course designed specifically for Operational Management. Details of each is provided on our general
Six Sigma Training and Consulting page.
Six Sigma Champions may also attend portions of the Green Belt Training to develop a general understanding of the tools used by the Project Teams.
