Q-Pulse is a Windows-based "N-tier" application built on the Microsoft .NET Framework, utilizing Microsoft SQL Server 2000 database technology and integrating with Microsoft Active Directory (AD). See details in the Q-Pulse Technical Overview

• The N-tier technology enables Q-Pulse to scale easily from the desktop or local area network to the enterprise or web application level.
• The .NET Framework is the Microsoft development environment that allows different programming languages & libraries to work together seamlessly to create Windows-based applications that are easier to build, manage, deploy, and integrate with other networked systems.
• SQL Server 2000 is a robust, scaleable relational database management system that offers a variety of administrative tools to ease the burdens of database development, maintenance and administration. Q-Pulse is available in various database options from an embedded Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine to a full enterprise solution on Microsoft's SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition. • Windows Active Directory service is the integrated, distributed directory service that is included with the Windows 2003 Server and Windows 2000 Server. By integrating Q-Pulse with user accounts and user groups held in Active Directory, there is no duplication of your network administration efforts and that resources will be freed to address other IT project priorities.
• Q-Pulse provides the optional ability to authenticate with user passwords held in Active Directory. To the network administrator, this reduces the number of passwords used on the network. To Q-Pulse users, this means that they only need to sign into the network to be able to access the Q-Pulse system.

Q-Pulse Client Software & Hardware Requirements

• O/S: XP Pro SP2, or Vista SP1
• NET 3.5 Framework SP1
• Disk Requirements: Q-Pulse Client Only = 60MB; Q-Pulse + .NET 3.5 = 560MB
• Audit Log Viewer (Feature Enabled): 30MB
• Processor: 1.7GHz or better; RAM: 512MB or better

Q-Pulse Server Hardware Recommendations

The server chosen to host Q-Pulse must be scaled to suit the installation environment, for example an organization that has 5 Q-Pulse users operating within a local high speed network will have different hardware requirements to that of a multi-office organization with over 100 concurrent users. The examples below are for guidance only.

1-25 Q-Pulse users

• Database: SQL Server 2000 SP4; 2005 SP2; 2008 (Note: 2005 or later required for Incident & Occurrence feature)
• Processor: 3.0Ghz processor or better.
• RAM: 2GB or better
• Storage#: RAID 5 array
• Network: Gigabit Ethernet
