Sigma for Process Capability Radio Buttons

When a file contains Variables data, the Analysis Options dialog box provides for specifying which value of sigma is used to calculate Process Capability and Process Performance. Refer to the Process Capability Chart & Statistics window section for more detail.

Select one of the following sigma options:

Note: Selecting either Population or Sample Sigma will result in Process Performance Indices, rather than Capability Indices. Since Sample and Population Sigma do not consider the stability of the process, they can only report on the performance for the calculated data, not the capability of the process.

Process Sigma: The standard deviation of the process, based on the control chart estimates of the variation.

Sample Sigma: The standard deviation of the samples drawn from the population.

See the calculation for Sample Sigma in the Process Capability Chart & Statistics Windows section.

Population sigma. The standard deviation of the population from which the sample was drawn.

See the calculation for Population Sigma in the Process Capability Chart & Statistics Windows section.
