File Open Dialog Box
The File Open dialog box is used to open existing data and chart files. To
access the File Open dialog box, select Open from the File menu, or use the toolbar icon.
The File Open dialog box will display a list of available files (list box on
left) of the type specified (drop box at lower left) in the current or default
directory (list box at right) and drive (drop box at lower right).
To open a file
- From the File Open dialog box, type the name of the file in the File Name text box, then click on the OK button (or press ENTER), OR
- Double-click on a file name in the Files list box. Use the scroll buttons to view the complete list, if necessary. You
may enter partial names in the File Name text box using the normal DOS wildcard characters (? and *). For example, to find all the files beginning with t you could
enter t*.qdb.
Note: Long filenames available in Windows95 and Windows NT will appear
truncated in the 16 bit version of this application. They will appear as saved in 32
bit versions of this application, subject to a maximum display width of
approximately 40 characters.
Show Information
When opening files, it is sometimes helpful to know more detail of the file
contents than the eight character field provided by DOS (and inherited by Windows
3.0 and 3.1). You may select from the following radio buttons in the Show Information box to show additional file detail:
Name & Data Type, will show the data type (Variables, Attributes, or Pareto) of each file
next to its file name. This will be blank if the file has no defined type or the
type cannot be determined.
Name and Description, the 80 character description that you assigned to the file when you saved
it, will be shown.
