Executing Programs as Result of Alert Condition
An executable file may be run, or a file opened, when alerts are generated
during chart analysis. This file is defined within accessible from the Analysis Options dialog box . Select the Run Program button from the Alerts dialog box to open the Choose Document / Command dialog box.
The specified file will be opened, or the program file executed (run), when
any of the (Included) Alert Conditions are encountered.
The following information is specified in the Choose Document / Command dialog box (available by selecting the Add or Edit buttons):
Title: Enter a description of the attachment (up to 80 characters).
Target: Enter the file name (optionally, with drive and directory path), or choose
the Browse button to locate a file.
Notes:
- Files may be dragged and dropped from Windows Explorer or Windows 3.1 File
Manager into the Alerts dialog box.
- When a file name includes spaces, the file name (and path, if specified) must
be enclosed in double quotes. For example: c:\temp\attached file.doc
- When a file with a long file name has been inserted into the 16 bit
application, the file name will be truncated to conform with the required 8.3 file naming
convention. For example: c:\temp\attachment.doc truncates to c:\temp\attach~1.doc.
- When files are specified that require opening in an application (such as an MS
Word document), then either:
- users need to have the correct association defined for that file type. (For
example, in Windows Explorer's View / Options / File Types), OR
- the file specification must include both the application (with its path) and
the file (with its path). For example: c:\winword\winword.exe c:\temp\attach.doc (NOTE: the double quotes are needed for the space between the executable and
the file name).
- Programs such as e-mail may be passed the Alert Message (see Details in Alert Conditions ) by including %1 (without the quotes) at the end of the Target field.
Start In: Enter the drive and directory path for the Target file. (This is required if
this information is not provided in the Target field, above).
Run: Select the window size used for displaying the specified file: Normal, Minimized, Maximized.
Clear All: Select this button to empty the contents of each of the specified fields in
the dialog box.
