Data Editor Window

Data is edited and viewed in the Data Editor window, which is opened when data files are opened or created. The Data Editor window is composed of up to 30,000 columns, each containing a unique characteristic to be observed, and a few million rows, each containing a unique observation (or data value) for each characteristic.

The data values in the all columns in a given row are all taken at the same point in time. This is necessary in order to do meaningful analysis across columns, such as Pareto Charts, Combined P-Charts, Scatter Diagrams, and Multivariate Analysis. If the rows don’t match across columns, there is no use in putting the data into a common file.

Each column in the Data Editor has a format, including a unique title, a width, a type (date, time, numeric, character), subgroup size and an indication of whether it contains data that you want to statistically analyze.

The Data Editor window’s contents (or links to ODBC Queries and DDE Links) is saved with the data file, which has a unique data type: Variables, Attributes or Pareto.

Note: The fonts used in the cells within the Data Editor window can be modified using the “DEFont1” property in the spcwin.ini file. The fonts used in the column titles within the Data Editor window can be modified using the “DEFont2” property. For example:

DEFont1=Courier,12

DEFont2=Courier,16,B
