Data Entry Validation

In the Column Format dialog box , there is a button labeled Data Entry. Selecting this button accesses the Data Entry dialog box.

Entry Validation: specify validation values for data entry into this column. When data is entered which exceeds these values, a warning message will be displayed. The user can acknowledge the warning and enter the data, or make changes to the entered value.

None:
The default setting for data validation. Any data can be entered into the column that meets the other Column Format criteria.

Within Spec + ___ x Spec: Enter into this text box, or use the up/down arrows, a multiplier to be applied for data validation. For example, if you want a warning to be given if a value out of spec is entered, enter 1.0 into this field. If you consider that the process could conceivably vary by about twice specifications, enter 2.0. The multiplier will be applied to the Upper and/or Lower Spec values entered into the Analysis Options dialog box for this characteristic.

Within Values: Enter a high value, a low value, or both to serve as a threshold for data entry.

Data Entry Prefix: In the Data Entry dialog box, you can set a prefix value that will automatically be applied to entered values in the Data Editor window. Enter a value in the text box, including decimal. When in the Data Editor, you can rapidly enter the values following the prefix, and both the prefix and the entered values will be recorded in the Data Editor cell. For example, if all data values in the column will start with 12.2, such as 12.23, 12.26, etc. than you can specify the prefix 12.2 to precede all entries. When entering the data, just type 3, arrow down to next cell, 6, arrow down to next cell, etc.
