Chart Windows

The content of chart windows is specific for the type of chart you have created, as specified in the Chart Options dialog box, but there are a number of features common to the various charts.

Chart window’s interface

  • Several Chart Symbols are used to indicate warning and audit conditions

  • Zoom and Pan in the Chart window to view charts with lots of data in greater detail.

  • Left Mouse button selection of a subgroup provides basic subgroup information

  • Right Mouse button selection of a subgroup provides the following options:

    • Go To Data: to go to the Data Editor at the selected subgroup

    • Drop from Chart: to remove the selected subgroup from the analysis.

    • Assignable Cause: to attach an Assignable Cause to the selected subgroup.

  • Show the Statistics window as a split screen below the control chart by selecting Show Statistics from the Edit menu, or check the Statistics check box on the Chart Options dialog box .

Note: MS Windows 3.1 and Windows 95 restrict the Statistics window to approximately 32,000 characters.

Changing the Appearance of the Chart

  • Chart Format Options: Select this option from the Edit menu, or click on the toolbar icon, to add user defined titles, subtitles, x-axis and y-axis labels with specified fonts and colors, and change scaling

  • Annotations (free floating text) may be added by selecting the ABC toolbar icon.

  • Assignable Causes may be attached to selected subgroups and stored in a column within the data file.

  • Show a histogram of the observations, with a brief summary of the statistics, to the left of the control chart: check the Advanced Chart check box on the Chart Options dialog box. (This feature is only available for Individual-X and X-bar Charts)

  • Show company / site information at the top left of the charts by selecting Preferences from the Options menu.

  • Produce alert messages (such as for advising corrective action), and highlight points, when control limits are exceeded, run tests are violated, capability goes below a threshold, or specs are exceeded by specifying these in the Analysis Options dialog box.

Options affecting the mathematics of the Analysis

  • Change the subgroups selected for analysis .

  • Change the Run Tests that are applied by selecting Run Tests from the Options menu. (This feature is only applicable for Run, Individual-X and X-bar Charts).

  • Change the settings entered in the Analysis Options dialog box for the variable, by selecting Analysis Options from the Edit menu, or clicking on the toolbar button . See the chart-specific chapters for more information on the Analysis options relevant for a particular chart.

  • Chart statistics may be automatically updated as new data is added to the chart by selecting Auto Recalculation from the Options menu. If this option is not selected, you must manually request recalculations using the Recalc button on a Chart or Statistics window. The check mark is toggled on and off whenever you click on the menu item. The default state for the Auto Recalculation option may be set in the Preferences dialog from the Options menu.
