Opening Access Databases

Note: By default, your Process Characteristics and their definitions are stored in an MS Access database. You may optionally purchase a SQL Server database format for storing this information, which is recommended for a large number of transactions or large number of Characteristics.

MS Access databases created by this application use the Access 97-2003 format. They are opened by selecting the main Database item in the Explorer view branch, then selecting the Open option from the right mouse or Database menu. This provides an Open dialog box for browsing and selecting a valid database. A fresh database, with no users, Characteristics or other data, may be created by selecting the New option.

Generally, the last database used by this workstation (i.e. computer) will be accessed each time the application icon is selected. An exception to this is if a specific database filename is specified in the command line. For example, you might enter the following target into your shortcut: "C:\Program Files\spcexplorer\spcsf.exe" C:\temp\sample.mdb

Data residing in other MS Access database formats can be linked or imported using the File / Open command.
