Importing Text Files

Select the Open Text File option in the File menu to access and view ASCII text files. Once the file has been selected, the wizard will provide a dialog to specify the Column Delimiter and other options associated with interpretation of the file format.

·      Select the Column Delimiter from the list box provided (or enter a delimiter with the User Defined checkbox). Use the spreadsheet view at bottom to verify that the data is correctly parsed.

·      When the file has initial “header” information included above the data, use the Skip First x Rows option (and enter the pertinent number of rows above the data or the column name row (see next note).

·      Use the Treat First Row as Column Name(s) option to convert the first row into Characteristic Names.

Once opened as a spreadsheet, select the spreadsheet and use the right mouse menu to access options to Import or Link the text file to the database.
