The Define Gage dialog box is used to add a new gage, edit an existing gage's properties, or test the functionality of an existing gage’s connection. It is opened in the Explorer view , by selecting the Gage branch, then the Add Gage option from the right mouse menu or Gages menu; or by selecting a specific gage in the Gage branch, then the Edit Gage option from the right mouse menu or Gage menu.
When used to edit a Gage, the User Name and Date of the last edit is shown at the bottom of the dialog box.
The following information is available on the General tab:
ID: Enter a unique alphanumeric Gage ID into the text box provided, up to 20 characters in length.
Note: If the entered Gage ID already exists in the database, then an Error message is provided when the OK button has been selected, and the user is returned to the Define Gage dialog box.
Description: Enter an alphanumeric Gage Description into the text box provided, up to 60 characters in length.
Active Status: Select this option to make the Gage status Active so that it can be used for data collection. De-selecting this option is useful for taking the gage out of service.
Serial Interface: Select this option to transmit data from the gage via the serial port. When this option is selected, the remaining options are available from within the Serial Interface Settings group.
Interface: Select the type of your connected gage or multiplexer from the list box. If the gage you want to use is not included in the list, consider using the Generic / Universal Gage. See Supported Gages .
Port: provides the serial port settings for this connection.
Slot Number: (multiplexers only) Select the slot (or socket) on the multiplexer that the gage selected below is connected to. Since each slot can have a gage assigned to it, select a slot, then select a gage from the Gage list box (below). Repeat this procedure for all of the multiplexer’s slots.
Note: The Mitutoyo WRU-U1 requires that slot number selected from the Slot list box is registered with the WRU-U1 before data may be sent. See the hardware manual for instructions on how to reg ister an I.D. number.
Gage: (GagePort NT and GagePort 2220) Select the gage that is connected to the previously selected slot of the multiplexer. Only one gage may be connected per slot. To mark a slot as empty (no gage assigned to it), select the slot and select No Gage from the Gage list box.
Readings can be sent from Multiplexor/Gage: (default = ON) This option is selected by default, since most electronic instrumentation have some means of transmitting the readings. For example, gages include a send button, or multiplexers are used with footswitches. Deselect this option if the gage does not have a "send" button to transmit the current reading.
Beep when Gage Reading Received: Select this option to receive an audio indication when the gage reading is entered into the Work Set view's Data Form.
Settings Tab: The Settings tab contains options that are generally left to their default value for a particular interface or gage. Verify that they are correct for the specified gage by referring to your gage's doc umentation.
Generic Tab: This tab is available when the selected Interface is Generic / Universal.
Test Gage Tab: Use this tab to connect to a gage and test its readings. If you cannot see the data coming in from the gage, then you should verify the items on the Settings tab against your manufacturer's suggested settings.
