The Run Tests tab (in the Define Characteristic dialog box ) displays the list of standard Western Electric / Nelson Run Test rules.
Select those to apply to the specified control chart. The default is Run Tests 1 through 8 ON, although this property is copied from existing Characteristics when new Characteristics are created.
Notes:
1. The Run Chart only uses tests 2, 3 and 4, since it has no control chart for estimating process sigma.
2. When a Non-normal distribution is applied to the analysis, Run Tests 1, 5-8 are modified to reflect the distribution percentiles corresponding to the stated Normal Distribution sigma level. This maintains the expected false alarm rate. For example, Run Test 5 (2 out of 3 successive groups beyond 2 sigma) is interpreted by using the 97.725 and 0.2275 percentiles of the fitted distribution, since those percentiles coincide with the +-2 sigma levels of the Normal distribution.
User Defined Run Tests: Select this option to open the User Defined Run Tests dialog box to define your own Run Test rules. This dialog box offers you eight different Run Test rules, labeled A through H. These rules were designed to be similar in form to the Western Electric/ Nelson rules. You may change the specifications for any of these Run Tests by selecting the text box where values are shown and typing in your own value. Check the box to the left of the Run Test label to activate your user defined run test. Select OK to accept your changes or CANCEL to ignore the changes and return to the Run Test dialog box.
