Database Branch

The Database branch is the top-most element of the expanding tree structure in the Explorer view. Select the Database label in the branch, then select one of the following options from the right mouse or Database menus:

New: used to create a new Microsoft Access, SQL Server, or SQL Server Express database for holding your process data.

·      MS Access Database: Use the Browse button to specify the Location and Name of MDB File. It is customary to place the file on a network server so your user base can access the data. You will need network Write privileges to create this new file.

·      SQL Server and SQL Server Express: (Available when SQL Server option is used) Specify the Database Server and Database Name, as well as Security type. See SQL Server Database Administration

Open: browse to select a different database (created by the File / New option within this application). See also:

File Open dialog box

The File Open dialog box is used to opens an external data source. It is opened by selecting the File Open toolbar button image\fileopen_small.gif. Select one of the following options:

·      a qdb file (created by earlier versions).

·      an MS Excel file

·      a comma, tab or space delimited Text File, such as created by other software or electronic test equipment.

·      a data source not listed above, including a wide variety of ODBC-compliant databases.
