Adding Users and Assigning Privileges

We are using the Sample database (C:\Program Files\spcexplorer\sample.mdb) for this demonstration. The database that you use for your company records is essentially blank when you purchase the software application. It is named shpfloor.mdb, but may be copied and renamed as you deem appropriate. As mentioned earlier, you may choose to use several databases within your operations, which is fine so long as you realize that most of your database information, including user names, privileges, or informational (traceability) fields, are not easily shared between the databases.

The first task you’ll want to complete is to secure the database by adding users and privilege levels. Privilege Levels, or Access Rights, define which software features are available to a set of users. For example, you might define a Privilege level called Data Entry to, for example, prohibit a specific class of users from editing data. Virtually all functions within the software can be controlled in this manner. The Administration privilege level provides full access to all functions.

image\mouse.gif Open the image\userbranch.gif User branch, select any of the users within a folder, then select the Edit User option from the right mouse menu to review the user options. When you add a user, you specify an optional password (which the user can later change) and a previously-defined Privilege Level
